“And Jesus cried out again with a loud [agonized] voice, and gave up His spirit [voluntarily, sovereignly dismissing and releasing His spirit from His body in submission to His Father’s plan]. And [at once] the veil [of the Holy of Holies] of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom; the earth shook and the rocks were split apart.” Matthew 27: 50 – 51 AMP
As you read this letter, please know that Jesus is the One who made a way for us to come into the presence of God. By His blood alone, and nothing else. Access for sinners to a Holy God is only through atoning blood.
The Jewish Temple was divided into three parts: the Outer Court, open to all; the Holy Place, to which the ministering priests had daily access to burn incense and trim the lamps; and the Holy of Holies, where only the High Priest was permitted to go, and that but once a year, on the great Day of Atonement.
The moment when Jesus gave His last breath, the veil between the Holy Place and the Holy of Holies tore, by the death of Christ every man can, if he will, come into the presence of God.
As I read Matthew 27:50-51 the other day, Holy Spirit showed me this:
Jesus, is our perfect example of how we should live. Jesus’s LAST act as human was to cry out to Father God, submitting His spirit in obedience to God’s plan, and dying. He gave His spirit up, voluntary, for God’s plan, and then died; and to follow His example, we should do the same. We must also give up our spirit voluntarily dismissing and releasing our spirit in submission to our Father’s plan and die to ourself and the very moment we do that, Matthew 27:51 says “And [at once] the veil [of the Holy of Holies] of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom”… the veil between us and God will tear and we will come in His presence.
Don’t misunderstand, only by Jesus’s blood did the veil tear which now gives us access to God’s presence. “Therefore, believers, since we have confidence and full freedom to enter the Holy Place [the place where God dwells] by [means of] the blood of Jesus, by this new and living way which He initiated and opened for us through the veil [as in the Holy of Holies], that is, through His flesh,”. Hebrews 10: 19-20 AMP
But, we still need to be obedient, crying out to Him, laying our life down, give up our spirit to God, and die to ourself to come boldly in His presence:
Therefore let us [with privilege] approach the throne of grace [that is, the throne of God’s gracious favor] with confidence and without fear, so that we may receive mercy [for our failures] and find [His amazing] grace to help in time of need [an appropriate blessing, coming just at the right moment]. Hebrews 4: 16 AMP
Come boldly now to the Throne of Grace; the veil is clean gone; the mercy seat stands open to the gaze of sinners, and the way to it is sprinkled with the blood of Him.
Jesus came to be the perfect example of how we should live. And that includes dying to ourself in obedience to God’s plan, screaming out to Him, and giving up our spirit to His divine plan.
Just as Jesus died, we should also die. Just as Jesus gave up His spirit voluntarily to the Father’s plan, so should we also give up our spirit to the Father’s plan. And as the Word of God say – AT ONCE THE VEIL TORE, so too will the veil between us and God tear AT ONCE and we will be able to go into the Holy of Holies.
